Inside a New Tech Incubator
Monday, April 11th, 2016Pick My Solar
Monday, April 11th, 2016From Ciclavia to the Art Walk, more than ever, DTLA is where things are happening, and why I’ve chosen to take a “Hot Desk” at LACI.
These are some of my neighbors at LACI Pick My Solar. These people are changing the way solar is sold across the planet. And really fun, too!
Pick My Solar is just one of the many innovations happening at LACI, the business equivalent of baseball’s farm system: it identifies local talent, nurtures it, and helps it get to market. www.laincubator.org

CicLAvia – changing the pattern of inactivity
Wednesday, July 8th, 2015CicLAvia transforms the urban streets of Los Angeles County by temporarily removing cars and opening the streets to people who ride bikes, walk, skate, jog or use other non-motorized transport. CicLAvia is partnering with UCLA and the Rand Corporation to measure health impacts and behavioral changes that are sparked by utilizing the city in this manner.

I became a LOOPER
Thursday, February 5th, 2015A year ago, I became a LOOPER, a monthly supporter for the XPrize a team engaged in innovation for the benefit of humanity. “Tapping into that indomitable spirit of competition brings about breakthroughs and solutions that once seemed unimaginable. Impossible.” Think Sergey Brin and the Google Lunar XPrize.
Loopers are invited to conversations with change-makers and scientists all over Los Angeles. Recently, we were invited to a workshop at the XPrize campus where they taught us the XPrize process. My team was made up of a physicist, economist, song writer, chemist, and marketer (me). We created a prize and then a presentation to sell our idea. We competed against 6 other teams…and we won!
It’s joyful to be engaged in something so far outside our world of development yet deeply relevant to the issues we face water, affordable housing, transportation, the American Dream. XPrize principles apply!
